If someone who photographs is a photographer,
and one who paints is a painter,
and one who sculpts is a sculptor,
does that make one who draws a drawer? bad pun
Seriously though, what is the proper term for one who draws? Illustrator and sketch artist is all I can come up with atm, but that doesn't seem to properly convey the fullness of one so skilled in drawing. Or are they simply generically referred to as an artist? I'm having a dead brain cell moment here ... a little help if someone can toss me a bone.
A drawer is the dictionary term, however, it's not very common and sounds awkward due to it's lack of use. I guess the more functional term is a draftsman or artist.
As I was drawing a comparison between artists of different media, quilter, sculptor, painter, etc. I just followed the "er" pattern and when I hit "drawer" for one who draws, I thought about a place for storing things in a dresser or desk, not an artist ... thus, wondering what is the most appropriate word.
"Drew" ... a little slow on my part, but I got there.
