p.1 #1 · Sigma 30mm f1.4 Art performance on full frame?

The new Art version of the Sigma 30mm f1.4 covers full frame without any mechanical vignetting. Has anyone see any resolution testing or reviews done on a full frame body? I've seem some5d3 shots on the forum, but nothing really showing how good or bad the lens is at the edges on FF. I have the lens, but only crop bodies, so I can't check myself.

Would you mind sharing the pictures from the 5D III? I didn't know it projected a full frame circle, but it is nice to know.

Here's the thread with the pics on a 5diii:

As far as why, I already own the lens and am contemplating getting a 6D. Thus, I was wondering how bad it is at the edges on full frame. Never said it would be as good as the 35mm f1.4, it's a $500 lens versus a $900 lens (actually, for me on full frame it's a $0 lens versus a $900 lens).

Holy cow! That's pretty impressive. I thought it was going to look 'acceptable' but that looks pretty damn well, IMO. I'd say just keep it, and enjoy it, don't compare it, there is no point. It's not that I'm not a pixel peeper sometimes, but those examples look pretty good.

Just my two cents.

my sigma performs very well on my 5D3.

It's real strength is wide open where for contrast and CA correction the lens stands head and shoulders above the competition.

However at infinity stopped down (say f5.6 - f11) my Zeiss 35mm f1.4 is sharper especially in the outer area of the frame.

The lens is great value for the $$. AF works well on the Canon too.

Soon no one will ever scoff at Sigma, they kick some establishment butt these days. They are lifting the bar considerably, and doing us all a solid.

I think you're talking about the Sigma A 35/1.4 but OP was asking about the 30/1.4.

The old one definitely didn't cover FF, and I wonder why they would have changed such a good lens. Perhaps the ones that claim FF coverage only tried closeups? That's what you usually see when people say their Nikkor 35/1.8 works fine on FF. It does, but not at or near infinity. The image circle always gets larger at close range because of the exit pupil moving further from the image plane.

Edit: All the examples in the other thread are closeups. As usual.

Huh. The samples in that thread show a fair bit of corner shading at f/1.4, which I would imagine would end up fairly hard at around f/5.6 or something. The old 30/1.4 looked similar on APS-H wide open, and would show more pronounced vignetting upon stopping down.

Maybe it barely covers Canon APS-C (1.6x) but not Nikon/Sony APS-C (1.5x)? Actually I do have both the 30/1.4 (old version) and the new 35/1.4: I could do a test on an A850 if people are interested.
