Mother nature served up a nice light show earlier in the week here in Iowa. Not much rain, no bad storm, just a beautiful lighting show. Hope you like it.
How cool! That is one really sweet light show. I love all the lightning going off inside the clouds like that. And then to get stars too... you really got it all here.

Thanks all for the great comments. It was fun to photo, the night was perfect. Calm, 68F, sitting on the deck having a beer with friends and tapping the shutter. Been a while since I have seen lightning with that frequency, bolts every 2-3 seconds. I also tried a video, but that wasn't very spectacular at all the time laps photo really worked.
Thanks for the tips on the lights. Red light from the radio tower for sure, and probably the farm light too, but like the light coming off the farm building's metal roofs (though could be too small to see so it is just distracting).
Settings are:
10 sec exposure
f4.0
ISO 800
EOS 6D
Lens, EF50mm f/1.4
A tremendous photo, Dan, and beer to boot. While I like the redo without the lights, the original version (minus the radio tower's light) is also worthy, as it gives a "human touch" of sorts—somebody's home there, and appear very small against the overwhelming forces of nature on that landscape. I'm glad there wasn't a bad storm in all that.
This image is stunning. Really nice work. I agree with blueshadows that keeping the dimmer lights would/does create a better sense of scale. Did I mention how much I like this capture?
I agree.., the main focus is the Upper half of the photo/clouds/lightening...the stars give it the infinite depth of the universe as a backdrop....Excellent work....
