Wonderful shots . Far too many magnificent shots to pick favorites, but the gannets and the puffins sure are special Congratulations on your life bird shot ! Stunning set Dorian.
Fantastic collection - this is on my list to do and you have reinforced it. Unfortunately ( ), I am heading for a remote island in the high arctic to look for muskox, and it will have to wait.
A tour de force series Dorian and such a pleasure to see all the different species from your trip
The Gannets and Warblers are wonderful and congrats on your BE shots, they are great!
The Ptarmigan steals the show though Dorian, wow wow and wow on this one
Gotta say the Puffin close work is some of the finest I've seen
Fantastic set, fantastic photography and an enthralling documentary to accompany, extremely well done Sir

Elliston rocks!!! Those are superb puffin images Dorian. When I was there last, all of the birds were on the little island. A long reach with a 400mm. Sounds like you had a great time there, with lots of birding success. Congrats on the great pics.
thanks ken. the puffins seem to vary their patterns year to year. the colony has apparently doubled in the last few years so there are more birds now. many made the short flight over to the little peninsula from that little island.
Dorian,
The Peanut Gallery thinks these pictures are swell.

(You have so many excellent images that I had to say it twice.)
I spent 2-weeks exploring all around the "Rock," but did so as a traveler and not a wildlife photographer.
I also had a wonderful time there (some of the friendliest people on earth)- but I sure didn't get any wildlife shots like these .

Looks like you had an amazing trip!!!!! Remember to PM me regards to the Canadian Arctic! Plenty of arctic terns where I was
hey charles
thanks for checking out the post. i wish i had got a few flight shots of the arctic terns, but the weather and the car crash behind me squashed that idea! oh well, you can't win them all.

Wow wow stellar and gorgeous equals EXQUISITE!!

thanks bb! the puffins were really too cute for words as they fumbled about on the cliff edge. my girlfriend sat watching them (and the 50 or so humpback whales just offshore behind them!) for 6 hours while i shot. a really great spot for sure

Great story and trip Dorian and a big congrats on your first baldy. I'm quite surprised as you have so many other species already. TFS all of the info.
thanks herb! i see eagles all the time but there just aren;t that many good place to shoot them up here. i am always envious of the shot you post so its nice to try my hand at a few of my own. i almost soiled myself when i saw him coming down the cliff towards me!

What an amazing trip you had! All images are well taken and show beautiful colors and fine detail.
I enjoyed seen them all, but the Puffing against that blue have a special place
Socrate
thanks socrate! the puffins just stayed on the cliff edge the whole time. this let me use the OOF water in the background of all of my shot., i kinda wish i had some with more green or even more rock, but they didn't take my direction as well i had wished!

Dorian, I've been waiting for this post from you with baited breath as my own trip to "the rock" is coming up in a few weeks. If I walk away with 10% of the shots you posted I'll be thrilled. I need to mop up some drool that slipped out after seeing your shots!
I'm thrilled to hear that the puffins are accessible in Elliston.
Thanks so much for the detailed post!
Cheers,

glad to hear the post was useful harry! the trick with elliston is just to wait out the crowds that will be there during the middle of the day. also, i pulled out all my gear and put it as a barrier to people getting to close to the birds. since i have a lot of gear, it made me look kinda serious and official and i think this helped to keep people from trying to approach the birds to close which could have scared them off. good luck, you'll have to post your shots when you return!
