My son and I headed up to lost lake last saturday as it looked like it might turn into a nice sunset. While I was checking out locations and he was playing with newts and the dog we started hear some rolling thunder. It wasn't much of a storm but I was lucky enough to catch one of the 4 or so flashes. I was just randomly clicking and deleting if there was no flash. In hind site I should of just set the intervalometer to fire and deleted later at home. I also had a ND filter I could have used to lengthen my exposure but I was worried it might darken the lightning too much. If anyone has tried using one before let me know if it worked. We only get thunderstorms rarely here but this shot makes me think about investing in one of the triggers.
Anyway a little later the sunset was pretty nice so I got some shots of those also. If only they occurred at the same time We landscape photographers are never happy.
Pretty cool to get lightning! I think I like the B&W version the best, though the color in #2 is nice, the B&W is a bit more dramatic looking here. And your #4 shot with the sunset colors is very nice. It must have been a nice time to be out there with your son.
Looks like you had a great day, and came home with some great images. Lightning is always exciting, and very hard to capture so I think you did really well. I prefer the colour version, and the sunset was great too

#1 is really something! I agree with Jim that it's more dramatic than the color version. There are a number of dust spots that I can pick out though. The processing other than the dust is great.
Thanks for all the nice words. I am leaning to the black and white as my favorite so far. I may try to reprocess the color one to add a little drama to the storm clouds and maybe try to make the mountain pop a bit more. Thanks for pointing out that dust. I will get rid of that soon. Its a pretty new camera there isn't supposed to be any dust yet.

I never had a chance to shoot lightening. I am sure it must be fun taking pictures of it.
Can I ask you a favor? Can you take "BCP" off the picture? Too much space it takes.
Nice shot. Shooting lightning is way better with digital cameras. It used to practically kill me to way for a day or two to see if I captured anything.
Nice! I always hoped for a good lightning shot there. I haven't seen dramatic clouds there since '05 or '06 when there was a crazy storm on Father's Day when my son was little.
