While I was walking through the canyon, this scene really caught my eye, but it wasn't really until I saw the film that I realized how much diagonal emphasis there was -- the lines on the wall on the left, the dominant highlights in the trees, and the branch in the lower right.
Lately, I've been trying to capture photos that are quiet, and inviting. There is a lot of "aggressive" landscape photography out there these days --- and that style certainly has its place, but I've always been a big fan of the calm, almost meditative landscapes. I love shooting scenes that are inviting, that make other people wish they could walk into the photograph as though it is an open door — and perhaps even visit the location some day.

I like and appreciate that line of though. There are definitely too many "aggressive" style photos out there where the photogs make more extreme shots with colorful or distinctive foreground elements really close to the camera and that and the distance scene sharp. The smaller formats allow that and people take advantage of it but to me a lot of those images do not generate the calm and serene feeling I like when experiencing some of these places.
Subtlety is definitely refreshing and appreciated in Landscape Photography even if initially the image doesn't get as many "likes" or "hits" over time it grows and grows on you and endures.
