What an incredible idea! Fantastic web site---I would never have the organizational ability to try such a thing. Do you have a favorite place that you have visited?
Wonderful, it's my hope to be able to do this with my wife someday. What are your thoughts upon being so close to completion? Do any particular parks stand out as favorites? Least favorite? Ones you want to visit again because you didn't feel you got to see it all?
Hey everyone, thanks for the comments. Just a few follow up remarks.....
PhilPDX....yes, QT Luong has done an amazing job in visiting all the parks , he was one of my early inspirations, would be nice to be placed in California where he is!
Ben, a book, eh? Mmmmmmmm...could be an idea...do you know any publishers?! We do have a lot of great stories to go along with the trips which I hope might give a book some more general appeal.
We are often asked our favourite park, and we have visited a number of them more than once....Bryce and Zion 4 times for example. Up until our most recent trip we had always placed Yellowstone at the top, but after visiting Haleakala in Maui I'm tempted to call that equal No. 1. Top five would probably be Yellowstone, Haleakala, Death Valley, Great Smoky Mountains, Acadia. Though I gotta say that when we drove into Zion for the first time back in December 2007 it literally took my breath away and I think it was that moment that really hooked me on this photographic journey. In fact that first trip we did had nothing to do with photography, apart from the usual holiday snaps, the only camera I had was the still function on my HD Video Camera!...we actually were there so I could run a marathon in Death Valley!
I do find that my rankings are partly based on what conditions I got at each park and what images I come home with. As some of the visits have been quite fleeting I'd certainly like to return, and in fact once we have completed the 59 we think we will keep returning but visit in different seasons.
The really big challenge is on now - 4 of the 8 parks in Alaska are very hard to get to = this just makes it even more exciting!
cheers Andrew
PS ...and I do have an extra element to this quest that I believe will make it quite unique........!
Wonderful interpretations of the areas you visited Andrew
#1 is rugged beauty personified!
#2 what a spectacle of a view and a challenging exposure that looks great.
#3 hard to find an overhang branch like that that does not have fishing line tangled in it, I like the perspective in this one.
#4 Ohhhh I like catching a view out a window or door like this, great presentation!
#5 a well captured mood
Beautiful, quality images Andrew. Congrats on the milestone and your website. It looks great and I look forward to going back to it over and over again as a reference and source of inspiration. You're my hero!
Andrew, Congratulation to you and Debbie. I know how much energy you guys have devoted to this and it is amazing. I can't image the wealth of memories and new friends you made along the way. I hope you find a new project for that energy. I will visit your site soon, when I have time to devote to it. In the mean time, toss one back for me, mate. Rick
