I've always felt that looking up into the Milky Way at night gives a sense that our planet is really a spaceship travelling through the Cosmos. An exposure without tracking that allows the stars to trail really gives this feeling.
Taken at my astronomy club's dark sky site in Oklahoma. The structure in the center is an abandoned observatory. I usually set up my DSLR on a tripod or star tracker to shoot some landscapes or timelapse while my CCD and telescope are working on deep-space objects. It helps to keep the mind working at 3:00am! :-)
