I am looking for some opinions on the cost of photography services. I work in the construction industry as my day job and photography has been a hobby for 8 years. The past two years I have been shooting architectural photography for my company when a project is finished and just this year a local architect has hired me to shoot some projects for them based on finding my portfolio online.
When I shoot for my own company we have a set fee since I can do it on company time. I am getting paid a salary + they give me the extra fee when I turn in photos ...not a bad deal, but also not common.
I certainly have the experience and know-how to do the shoot, but this is the first time someone has asked me what I would charge for services. The shoot is 3 hours from home, so I would need to travel, shoot and travel back home. I think that is a 14 - 16 hour day to get them 20 - 30 good shots interior and exterior. The Architect will provide me renderings and floor plans with locations to shoot from. He will also be there to help set up and move furniture if needed. I think it will take me an additional 8 - 10 hours to process the photos. My ideal is to get the right shot in the field so editing is less ...but I still think it will take that long. I am thinking in the range of $2,500 + travel expenses, but wonder if I am selling myself short or pricing too low. I want to have competitive pricing with other photographers. I realize that if I sell my services too cheap that it cheapens the industry.
