p.1 #1 · problem of a friend: 50mm 1,4 ~1,5 leica or zeiss?

He owns a Leica M6 and a M3, so film only.
what should he buy?
leica aspherical?
leica non aspherical?
zeiss?
or ...?

i could not not find any comaprison side by side,
with bokeh, sharpness ...

did anybody here made a decision before?
and why what?

What's the budget? What type of rendering does he like?

I'd say the current 50 Lux ASPH (perhaps second hand) - has smooth bokeh and 3D pop!

Generally speaking, the modern Leicas are more Zeiss like in their rendering. If you're after 3D pop, I think you'd need to look at a late model Leica.

The Zeiss 50 1.5 sonnar has classical rendering. Not sure it is renowned for 3D pop.

F/2 would open up a number of more options.

Budget?

Modern look, contrasty and sharp and 3D - Zeiss ZM50/2 Planar. Best bang for the buck new (or used). Everyone who shoots Leica M should have one of these lenses.
Smooth and 3D pop? Leica Summilux 50 ASPH.
Depending on subject matter, Zeiss ZM-C 50 1/.5 Sonnar has a very smooth bokeh and some 3D look but has focus shift and field curvature. On film, it may not be as noticeable. Really classic looking rendering but with modern T coating.
