p.1 #1 · Products to Sell - Magazine Covers

I've noticed that a few photographers offer "magazine covers" as an option when ordering prints. Granted every market is different, but typically how do these sales compare to say posters, trading cards, coffee mugs, etc..

And are there any templates available online? (ESPN, Sports Illustrated, etc..)

I do more magazine covers than coffee mugs, but less than trading cards.

Thanks James!

Are you designing your own covers or are there templates available?

I sell a lot of magazine covers - more so than the other designs I offer. I created a basic template that is then customized to suit the sport I'm covering.

Hope this helps.

Top sellers for me are:

Buttons
Magnets
Trading cards

My magazine cover sales are usually pretty low. I like them though, its a ESPN cover (yes it's licensed)

Thanks Ryan! hmmm, licensing from ESPN sounds expensive. Do you know if this is available to us independant guys or do we need to go through a larger reseller/printer to get these made?

I'm not sure, I use H&H Color Labs for my sports printing. It's licensed through them. I can imagine to an individual would be expensive. Just use the font and call it E5PM, it's close. lol

I use http://phototidings.com

They cost $ 30 per PSD template, cheaper in quantities.

I have about 10 sports.

I haven't pushed them lately. Thanks for reminding me.

Thanks Bob! Those look good and something to consider if the orders start coming in.

p.s. I especially like the Golf Magazine template... maybe I need to shoot more golf just so I can use it. ;-)

Way too expensive IMO. Look for companies that offer them for free when using their printing service. Desktop Digital, Richmond Pro Lab, etc. Also... Google My ESPN Highlights. Pretty cool stuff that's being done.

Sorry for being a newbie to this, when ya'll say Magazine Cover, are you only referring to the photoshop designed content or does this also refer to the way it's printed? Basically, are these printed on the same photo quality paper or something different?

I'm looking for the "photoshop designs", so that the "photo print" looks like a magazine

James, I noticed on one of your old price sheets you had the Magazine Cover at $17 and an 8 x 10 at $13. Are the Mag covers also sold in the 8x10 format? If so, it seems to me the time and effort would be worth more than a $4 premium. I get that once it's set up it's not a huge deal, but even then $4 seems minimal.
