Thank you for your inquiry regarding the EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens. We can certainly understand the confusion surrounding this release! Unfortunately, this specific lens will not be sold or serviced by Canon USA.
We apologize for any inconvience this might have caused, and please let us know if you have any other questions!

Is the end for the EOS M in the USA coming soon, once they've dumped stock?

Hopefully not. More likely that a couple of new EOS M bodies are on their way. Perhaps Canon will roll out the new 11-22mm with the new bodies in the USA later this month or next ... maybe in kit form. Although, I did notice that Canon removed everything related to the EOS M from the Canon internal employee store. I interpreted this as redirecting all of their inventory to these close-out sales. It is my understanding that Canon was going to release three new lenses (11-22mm is one of them) in 2013 and two new bodies for the M system.

As I said - theres little reason to make a specific EF-M 18-200 apart from to sell it to people who dont have the EF adaptor I guess.
The sony one is not really smaller than the canon one.
IIRC, Sony's newer 18-200mm lens is smaller than the original.
I guess we can always order it from Canada, and eventually will start to see them pop up on the buy sell forum here. AT 400 dollars I wouldn't be too concerned if you couldn't get it serviced in the future. The most appealing thing about the eos-m is how reasonably priced the lenses are, and yet they seem to have extremely high IQ. That's almost enough to make me dump my SLR right there.
Do you think there a reasonable chance that the 11-22 will show up as a "grey market/white box" item through some of our regular distibutors or someone like Big Value Inc?
I would highly doubt that we will not get the lens in the US market. There are a couple ebay sellers preordering/selling it for around $600 now. Hopefully it will decrease in price though. Don't really want to spend double that I did for the body and the kit lens.

I agree. I think Canon should take the mirrorless market seriously. I hope in the near future, they'll consider a professional mirrorless lineup of cameras and lenses. It would be awesome to have L grade lenses for their mirrorless system.
