p.1 #1 · Camera Settings for T-Ball Game?

Tonight is my sons first T-Ball game and I hoping somebody can point me in the right direction as far as camera settings to start off with. I have a Nikon D600 with the following lens options:

AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR
AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED
AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED
Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF

Any help with with good camera settings to use as a starting point would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

What time is the game. fstop wide open, ISO probably >1600, ss try to keep no less than 1/1000 on moving players.

Good luck

Thanks Ted. The game is from 7-8pm. The field faces north east so a setting sun shouldn't be an issue from the 3rd base side. Any thoughts of lens choice? Should I use the Nikon 70-300 or Sigma 120-400? Probably not much difference since fstops are similar?

I'd go with your 24-85, as you should be able to get up close to the players. I'd also think you will be OK down to a 1/400 sec. as kids this age are not very quick (except when they fall down).

Thanks Ed. You're right at this age it should be fairly slow paced and easy to get up closer to the action.

On a full frame... 85 will be loose. You can get close but not that close. Do you want some basic snapshots or do you want something that stands apart from a point and shoot? If you want something that stands apart, that is achieved with separation between subject and background. For that, I'm thinking 70-300 and @300mm as much as light will allow.
