I know previous owners of the previous version said that this lens was not truly 300mm on the long end. I am assuming that is still the case with this one as well since it has been reported the optics are the same. Would like to now what the actually focal length is on this lens.

My understanding is the original non OS version was close to 280mm and that the OS version improved this so it was in the ~290mm range.

Well no "Low light" sports yet, I did run across a coach pitch game. Light was well diffused so no challenge with back lit players, shot on continuos low & focus priority. The sport had no problem keeping up with 6 frames a second with and out the TC shooting through the fence. SO far no complaints on any front.

It's been reported as 290mm ... so as good as because everyone else seems to over calculate (or just round up) too !
With a x2 TC on it's around 550mm from what I can see (at 30m not infinity).

Jude - that massive Sigma 120-300 thread on POTN (280+ pages) has seen all the TCs tested (Canon, Nikon, Kenko, Promaster), in the case of both the x1.4 and x2.0 the Sigma TCs are clear winners. I use the Sigma 2.0 and it is really very good.

any more photos with the new 120-300 Sport lens?
Tom, may i ask if your photos are processed or just with the stantard camera settings (sharpening at lv3)? Which Extender do you use?
Could you show the exif (aperture, shutter speed etc.) of the pictures you uploaded? Great pivtures by the way.
Can you upload some more pictures with the 1,4x at f/4 and mybe with the 2x at 600mm at f/5,6 at some point?
I was looking the resolution test results at the-digital-picture.com with the Extenders (1,4x and 2x) compared to the naked 100-400 at f/5.6 and the 120-300 at 420mm @ f/4 and especially at 600mm @ f/5,6 is very dissapointing.
It would be great if someone will upoload more pictures or tell us some opinions about the lens used with Extenders..
