We had mist falling on Sunday morning when I arrived at Nickerson Beach, Long Beach Island, New York. I expected it to stop raining as that is what the radar made it look like. I found these oystercatcher hatchlings near their mom and started to photograph them from about 15 feet. I slowly moved in and eventually had them filling about ½ the frame. As they began to fight, they got closer and close making me back up as they came inside of my minimum focus distance. This happened a few times. If you look at the exif data you can see that I’d zoomed back to about 200mm for quite a few. I was lying on my belly and mesmerized by what was taking place in front of me. I came back to reality when I filled the CF card and as I reached into my pocket to get a spare I realized that I was covered in sand and soaking wet. The rain was coming down at a steady pace and the wind was blowing which had resulted in my filter getting wet. This created a bit of a soft effect in the photos.
Funny, funny series...looks like the Rug Rats my kids used to watch on TV. It also looks like they had got into dad's liquor cabinet and can't stand up too well.

Fantastic Morris !!! Love these. I can totally understand getting lost in watching these guys and not realizing you are soaking wet.
