My D700 is doing a rather strange thing. It will lock up when a flash is attached, I have no meter reading ie no aperture or shutter speed. It does it at the most in opportune times yesterday at the guarder toss, a few weeks ago as the bride is coming down the isle. At first I thought it was my Qflash's TTL adapter, but it started doing it with my SB900. Its not the lens because the lens works fine with my D300. Any suggestions?
The D700 has a "weak" flash shoe when used with heavy flashes like the SB900. Nikon has an improved shoe. I would try to clean the contacts on the shoe and under the two metal slides on the shoe that hold the flash. Use Deox-It. Also clean the flash contacts. If that doesn't work and you can get it to work by wiggling the flash while mounted then you need to send it in to Nikon or APS. I think it's about $250.
