p.1 #1 · Scotland images

Just back from a trip to Scotland with my wife where we traveled around from Oban to Glencoe to Skye and all the way up to the Ullapool area. Weather was typical Scottish weather (if not perhaps a tad colder than usual), with rain, fog, clouds and periods (even an entire day here and there!) of beautiful sunshine. As the saying goes, there is no such thing as bad weather in Scotland, just the wrong clothing !

These images were taken with the D800E and most with the 45 PCE and 70-200/4. The panoramic shots were made using the 45 PCE and stitching 3 images together. The full gallery can be seen at www.fotomark.org.

Comments most appreciated.

Mark

They 're great, I want to go there again too as I only had a brief stop in Scotland last year.

Love the B&W conversion... make me want to do some B&W works (I just realized that I'm entitled to get Silver Efex Pro 2 for free but have not even tried once)

Some great shots.

Funnily enough I was talking to my friend the other night when we went for a long drive and was saying that after living here all our lives we don't appreciate it and its beauty and that people visit from all over the world to see the place.

I really need to take some long drives to get some shots.

You should try Silver Efex, it really is a step up from Photoshop / Lightroom IMO in delivering quality B&W

Indeed !

We often love to travel to far away places while beauty is just in our backyard

Beautiful photos Mark. I grew up in Scotland, although I live in Southern England now. I still miss the scenery and try to get home at least a couple of times a year, butnI haven't been back to Glencoe since our honeymoon last April. It's one of my favourite places.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your workflow for the monochrome conversions?

Graeme

Thanks

I use the Nik Silver Efex plugin. Have been using it for years and honestly although it costs an arm and a leg in my opinion it delivers blacks that you just don't get out of Photoshop or Lightroom. My approach is fairly standard, I convert to B&W usually using an orange filter although I can go more yellow or red depending on the image, then add a bit of contrast and that's about it. When working with portraits I also might add a touch of vignetting to "close" the image around the subject.

Ah, Scotland. I could wander for months over there. You just took one of our favorite routes and captured the images very well. Did you take the ferry to Mull? If you can next time, take the road west to yet another ferry and the old monastery. Can't recall the name of it, but the drive out there on Mull is stunning as well. More please.

I will certainly give it a shot after seeing your works! just installed it to both my Mac air and PC.

Btw, do you realised that you can get other Nik software for free (http://www.niksoftware.com/nikcollection/en/intro.html) if you have any one of them? ( received the email like a month ago while I was in Iran and quickly ignored it.... I just read it from the internet about that offer and digged the email out, so it's a "new" discovery to me and just want to make sure that you haven't missed it)

And for those havn't got any of those software... I think that $149 package is not bad.
