p.1 #1 · Native American Pow Wow Portraits with the 120-300 2.8 OS

I recently traded my 70-200 vr (which I seldom used) for a Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS thinking that it would replace my 2.8 zoom and 300mm needs.
For really fast action I have the 400 2.8vr and 200 f2 vr so this lens would fill the needs of the 70-200.
I rarely used the 70-200 as I found it a bit short for my style of shooting.
Well I am happy to report that on it's maiden voyage the lens performed flawlessly.
Focus was spot on and it's extremely sharp at all focal lengths even wide open.
Here are some pics from the Pow Wow all taken wide open at 2000 iso with the D800

Michael, Thanks for the report on the lens. I to have been looking at this lens and debating between this and a 70-200mm 2.8. I'm thinking I'll save a few more pennies for this lens. Your pictures look great.

I've got this lens as well Michael .. and will be upgrading it for the new version once it's been out a while and the price settles down. You're right, it's incredibly sharp, AF is good and it takes the Sigma TCs superbly (though there is a fair bit of focus breathing). It was a brilliant lens for me on a recent long trip.

Superb shots, great colour and character in the people, just wonderful.

Love going to powwows. Lots of colour, action, tradition and culture.

Excellent. Is this the last version or the first OS version of the lens. I have one of the first and the IQ is indeed amazing for the price.

George,
Frogfish and BenV..
many thanks...

I was going to wait for the new one, but for my use, I didnt think the 1500 extra coins would be worth it.
