Just a documentary shot of a tiny bird found only in our islands. Total length of bird is 4 inches and shooting distance was 11.2 meters.
Red-keeled Flowerpecker (Dicaeum australe, a Philippine endemic)
Habitat - Canopy of forest and edge, usually in fruiting and flowering trees.
Shooting info - 5D MIII+ 400 f2.8 IS + 2x TC II, 800mm, f/5.6, ISO 2500, 1/1000 sec, manual exposure in available light, AI servo, 475B + 516 support, 2.17 MP crop from a 22 MP capture, resized to 800x600.
Normally i don't like using a 2x Extender; but as someone pointed out, when you are close and want to get closer, it can yield some pretty good results........
My contribution: a Female Long Tailed Duck, haven't seen me, and landing right in front of me:
Performance of my 5D2 isn't great for fast moving motorsports, and need some more testing to see if IS is causing more harm than good to some of my panning shots. But the X2 III is handy at making my 400 2.8 IS a little more versatile:
I'm liking the 2xTCIII with the 70-200L IS II on the 5D3. It doesn't quite have the edge as with the new long II telephotos. For walking along the river this afternoon without great expectations it was just fine.

A tough test: Taken in low light, handheld, braced against the car door. Lost some detail on the head, but there would be no chance without the 2xTC.
Canon 1D Mark IV with Canon 400mm DO + 2xTC.
Looks like a very tough shot, indeed. Nice head turn and catchlight, Brian.

I hate using a 2x. Here's some rubbish from my 1DX + 500 f/4 mk II + 2x mk III. All taken at the magnificent Floi nature reserve in Iceland
Nice variety of captures. I absolutely love your first image.
