Nevada is 95% desert.
Driving the major highways gives the impression that Nevada is flat.
Well, it is... except for the numerous mountain ranges that all run north and south.
Mountainous deserts make for great sunsets on the leeward sides of the mountains.

For many years I thought of the name "monsoon" in terms of the annual, heavy and long-lasting rains that fell in India and the Himilayas.
Then I heard mention of summer rains in Arizona being called monsoon.
Well, I worked at the Grand Canyon one summer and we once had (very rare, I was told) heavy rains for 2-3 days. True, many of the dry creek beds flooded, but that was because they were so shallow to begin with. AND, the rain was localized.
So- in my terms- the southwest doesn't really have monsoons, although heavy rains in the mountains are not rare.
I'd say the same thing about Nevada.
But that's just my opinion. How the national weather bureau defines monsoon is another matter.

Beautiful shot. I spent 2 years consulting at an Army base about an hour NW of Reno and had an hour drive each way across the desert from the hotel in the city. Beautiful, remote country - loved it. and you've captured it wonderfully. Nice job, Charlie.
