I spent 7 nights in the Moab area towards the end of February, and we had some crazy weather there, so much cloud, some brooding fab skies, but only one really clear morning on the day I was leaving. So it had to be done knowing the sun would be out! Mesa Arch for sunrise! I have shot it before, but not with the 30mm lens.
I have another shot, taken slightly earlier, a little further back with more of the arch and a full sunburst and somehow controlled the flare, but this shot is a little nicer IMO, something a little more mellow about it!
Thanks Ed & Craig - I originally framed the image without the sky, but parallax error had a little creep back in! I probably agree it should be cropped out and in the shot I have framed the mat actually does this for me!
The contrast between the foreground and background is beautifully controlled. Also, as Fred mentioned the light on the arch from left to right, leads the eye to the background.
Thanks Fred & Anand...the pano format worked so, leading your eye left to right as it generally should!!
Here's the morning I took this shot, 30 mins speeded up to about 1 minute! With only a few photographers it was easy to work to get whatever you wanted!
