By the way, George, I (Brian Owens) have a distant relative with the same name as yours whom I've never met, but my uncle Claud has had contact with him since finding him while doing geneological research.

Is that you by any chance?

Hey Brian, No, that isn't me.

I understand that ACR/LR now have the ability to do an LCC shot (can't remember what it's called by Adobe) such as is used in Capture One. Heaven sent for trouble lighting situations like this.

Does this program also assist with focus? I heard it places a green layer over the image when shooting tethered when the image is in focus. Wasn't sure if this is the same program.

...It was mentioned to build a light tent of sorts which I can do and will need to build it large enough for the largest rugs but any suggestions on height as far as bouncing light off the makeshift ceiling?

The further the source from the subject (including bounce distance) the more even the light will be from edge to edge, due to the action of the inverse square law. The trade-off is that the greater the distance the more power needed for the same level of illumination. So you need to experiment with the lights you have to find out what the optimum distance will be.

For the close-up photos of the detail you would want to use a different lighting strategy than for documenting the full flat rug. The illusion of 3D is best achieve by placing a "key" light behind and to the side then shooting into the shadows side of that source. For logistical simplicity you might do the close-up with a pair of speedlights, one on a bracket for fill the other on a stand behind and to the side 135° from the lens axis.

Thanks, Is there a tried and true 3 to 1 or just experiment?
