Robby

I know nothing about sigma lens so I can't comment on that. I can say ... Keep at it. 280mm is very short. The eagles will need to be very close. I'd encourage you to keep trying. Get one good shot and you will be hooked.

Get your shutter speed up over 1/1500. You might have motion blur here .

Best of luck

Get a really good lens and the D3s WILL deliver. The 300 f4 with TC-14E II would be about the minimum
unless your eagles are used to people and you can get closer. There's no free lunch for BIF IQ. GL

PS. I'm partial to the 300 w/TC-17E II...poor mans 500, it delivers in spades.
SOOC, just to give ya an idea on FX

I can tell you are already hooked and wanting more focal length
I know nothing about the Sigma lens, but as already suggested try and get closer and up your shutter speed.

Keep shooting and posting.

i don't know anything about the sigma but as trenchmonkey suggested the 300mm F/4 is a great lense and the D3s is a great camera

just keep at it and keep your shutter speed up

this was with the D3s and 300 F/4
