p.1 #1 · Has anyone bought a collar for the Nikon 70-200 f4?

I've been looking at the option and am a big RRS fan. I see that the Nikon is $170 and the RRS is $200(with the foot) and Kirk also makes one. The RRS is here:

Sooner or later I'll need to splurge and was hoping to maybe hear from someone who has tried the RRS version, or maybe even the Nikon.

I think the RRS is pretty new, just hoping to get some thoughts. Thanks!

I bought the Nikon from Roberts when they had them (maybe they still do) for $159.
Been very happy with mine regarding it's stiffness while taking remote corded shots from my tripod. It is not terribly smooth when rotating though, but I don't do that too often.

I have not invested in a QR system that uses the AS foot, so it's not a big deal to me.

I have the Nikon RT-1 collar. It works great, and at $159 it was the cheapest option available.

The RRS version is best out of the 3 mentioned. That's my dip of the pen, at least.

I'm thinking the same thing and considering going that way although it's a bit more. RRS is tough to beat.

I noticed that the RRS collar package, at 12.7 oz. with the foot attached, is almost twice the weight of the Nikon version (6.7 oz. with an RRS plate attached). The Nikon collar is rock-solid, so I don't know what you gain with all the extra metal in the RRS version.

Cliff, I never even looked at the weight. That may cause me to re-consider, save $35 and go Nikon. Thanks for the heads up. I should have looked.

My RRS collar is in the mail as we speak. Arca Swiss and a removable foot were big pluses for me... (not to mention RRS quality)
