Well I assume this is for warranty work. All canon can do is go by the S/N for the build date. If it still in warranty that way, I would think they’d honor it. If not, it’s up to you to prove it’s still within warranty.

You can call their number and explain the problem, telling them that you'd like to send it in for repairs. They will then give you the instructions (they emailed them to me). You'll need to pay for shipping and insurance. Canon will give you a price quote for free, and you'll have the option to accept or deny. When doing a non-warranty repair, it is fine if you can't show any receipt (they never asked).
