p.1 #1 · Juniper Tree Panoramic

‘Dead Horse Juniper’. Taken in Dead Horse State Park. Before I shot this picture, I had waited well over an hour for a potential sunrise that never happened! It happened a lot on the Utah trip! But about an hour after sunrise, and breakfast, a few gaps in the clouds allowed a little sunlight to hit the canyon. I captured the usual full on panoramic view, with everything in focus, Dead Horse is the kind of park you have to, then I looked for something a little different. I love the juniper trees that grow right on the mesa. They’re all gnarly, tangled and ancient looking, so I chose to focus on one tree in particular and put the bend in the river in the background, out of focus and have to tree stand out as the centrepiece to the image. It's rare I shoot on the 90mm lens, nevermind shooting at F4!

Tech stuff – Hasselblad Xpan2, Fuji Velvia, 90mm lens.

Yep, I shot this same tree last Tuesday, I did get some brief light. But Wednesday was pouring down rain, dark and foggy too. This is a neat tree.
