I took this shot last Tuesday trying to get that Tom Till composition. As you can see the flowers are just starting to bud out. Should be good soon if this is the same mules ear.
I will not be going back for it, but if you are in the Moab area, it may be worth a stop.

One thing I've learned. You can't duplicate an artist's shot. You can try, even using the same tripod holes. But, in the end, yours is yours and theirs theirs.

I am not even sure I would hang a perfect version of this. But it intrigued me. Been looking for the place the last 3-4 trips and finally found it or within 10-30 feet. One thing I could not find is the blooming time for Mules Ear. I googled it but must have used the wrong keywords.
Duplicating famous shots is a sort of learning thing for me. I do plenty of personal things too, but what the heck, it's easy to stop here and work on an Icon. The light and atmosphere and even vegetation will be different of course.
I also work on Snake River Overlook which is impossible to dupe now because of the trees.

I've got my best shots of mule's-ears in the late summer and fall. The ones I've seen so far are not too far along. It's not too sharp on my screen but it looks like part of the mormon tea family. The rock formation that you have is super.

Thanks for the info and I guess this means it is too soon to get the iconic shot. Never been there in late summer.
