I have a new D7100 and I am trying to determine if there is a custom setting to remove the display in the viewfinder of the remaining buffer when the shutter release is partially depressed. I found the setting to display the ISO in this spot of the viewfinder however when you partially depress the shutter release to achieve focus and exposure, the display is changed to [R17] in the attached example and I would prefer not to see this and simply see the ISO. When I release the shutter release button, the ISO is displayed again but again, I would prefer to see the calculated ISO all of the time instead of the remaining buffer when partially pressed.

I thought the ISO is always shown in the VF beside the shot/buffer counter
This is the way it is on my D700 and D300s.
Guess the D7100 is different. I would say if it doesn't say there is a option in the manual for this, then it can't be done. Did you look in the manual to see if this is an option?

The out of box configuration is that the ISO is only displayed when you press the ISO button. However you can set a custom option to display the ISO instead of the file counter. However when you press the shutter button halfway, the buffer counter replaces the file counter/ISO in the viewfinder. Then when you release the shutter button, the file counter or ISO is shown again. I don't really care about the buffer counter. This is disappointing if you can't always show the ISO.

Well sounds like what you want is only a feature on the high-end bodies. This was one reason I sold my D7000 and when back the the D300s, missed all the extra features of the high-end and why I did not get a D7100.

Thanks and I believe you are correct. Due to this issue and a few others, I may return the D7100 for a D600. It appears to have this feature plus the selection of Wide Angle primes will be better with a full frame sensor, which is another thing that I miss with the D7100.
