This is no little guy...maybe 25% bigger than my outstretched hand...its vocalizations drew my attention. And since the GHO which was overhead was hunkered down in its nest I decided to shoot something with a bit more visibility...

I think he likes you Eric!! I do find their boisterous vocalizations to be somewhat of an odd survival strategy. Don't the predators hear them just as well as potential mates I guess not, I hung out near one the other day waiting for a bittern to show up and eat it but to no avail. Go figure. Hey no sticks in the way with this guy!!!

Oh, how I wished for an image like that but that GHO didn't move more than 6 inches for the 4 days...maybe that's why this one has kept her owlets unlike the other that was galavanting around
And yes, I was able to get up.....eventually

I was quite smitten with it too Tim. There's just something about those bug eyes I find so intriguing...I think the vocalizations have something to do with mating calls so it is obviously sex over security....not unlike many guys I've met
