I don't think they will start to process your application until after the return period for the items you bought is over, so you likely won't see anything for several months.

If this is about the B&H "Rewards" program, there's a wait period. The program description says, "Approximately 40 - 60 days after shipment, your Rewards points will automatically convert to a promotional code that can be used on any item we sell."
If this is a traditional rebate from a US manufacturer or distributor their usual disclaimer is something like 6-8 weeks.

I submitted rebates for 2 Canon printers, the Pixma 9000 and Pixma 9500. They both came in about 2 months, although I don't remember how long after the purchase I sent them.
I think they might **not** wait for a return period. That is why they make you so clearly mutilate the box - by cutting through all layers of cardboard - so that it can't be returned. I have to say it is a pretty decent rebate program if you need a photo printer.
My father also sent in one for the Pixma 9000. His experience was about the same as mine.
The good news is that we received all 3 arrived rebates without a problem. Unlike the old days, when every rebate you submitted would "automatically" be rejected for some bogus reason. Then if you hadn't copied the documents to reply you were out of luck! (Looking at you, Turbo Tax!! Had 3 rebates one year, all 3 done perfectly and rejected for totally bogus reasons. )
Although you actually paid the money out of pocket, the AMEX is sort of like "extra" money. I used that along with some gift cards and rebate points to buy a laptop recently, with wife's approval ("Free money..." - sort of like money laundering.)

I've seen 60 days or even 90 for the Canon printer rebate cards. They seem to delay as long as possible. You can log-in to the rebate processing site and see any progress.

They received my rebate info on 4/22 and I had my rebate on May 7th. It was so fast that I decided to get another one from B&H for $89 after rebate just because a set of ink will cost more.
