p.1 #1 · Help - Black areas in highlights 5D mk2 video
I have come across an issue with my 5D2. I was shooting video at a large concert (so the lights were VERY bright) and each time a rotating stage light would point directly at the camera I get a fully blown out area of the frame which is understandable but in that area there is a small amount of black pretty much where the centre of the light is. It is so bright it has gone black. What is this? The lights weren't lasers which I know can cause sensor issues and the issue doesn't carry on - just when the light is VERY bright and perfectly direct.
Tried googling but all I find is people moaning about trying to push the blacks 10 stops and getting noise

There was an issue with still images that was resolved with one of the earliest firmware upgrades. From the Wikipedia page, Firmware 1.0.7 resolved:
Early buyers of the camera reported black pixels appearing in high contrast situations.] In late 2008, Canon officially acknowledged that there was an issue with black dots and vertical banding noise in certain circumstances.
Maybe there are certain extreme situations where the fix isn't 100% effective.

Maybe things got pushed too far or maybe you are still running a truly ancient version of firmware??

I am not on the latest firmware. That's not something that had occurred to me. I'm on 2.0.9
I will update it and hope that it doesn't happen again
That sounds like it might be past the bug fix. I forget though. I believe only the first one or two firmware's for the 5D2 had that bug. A 2. something one sounds too recent.
