Good shots.

I think your Helophilus is fasciatus, the common species, especially in southern Ontario and the USA. H. obscurus has a black stripe below the antennae rather than orange. http://www.canacoll.org/Diptera/Staff/Skevington/Syrphidae/Helophilus/Helophilus.htm
