Nice Charlie. I spent 30 days there whilst in the Army playing military games (Borderstar '85). Some of the biggest rabbits and insects I ever saw were in that desert....!
Thanks Tom, Chris, Douglas and Greg.
Ah, a clear blue sky is typical of our SW deserts- which can be good or bad .
The "lake" was quite shallow (I'm guessing a foot or two deep).
Big rabbits? Those would be jack rabbits instead of the more typical cottontails. I agree- they ARE big. Among the differences- jacks live entirely above ground and cottontails burrow.

Not to mention a certain amount of radioactive genetic material. When I say big, I mean HUGE! I was standing guard duty one morning at dawn and I heard this sound coming from behind me. It sounded like a horse, when I turned, it saw me and veered off to the side. Had it hit me, it would have knocked me out cold. That's how big it was.....

Pretty close to it Charlie! Seriously, I hardly tell people that because they just don't believe it, but even the insects were huge. I was told that due to the nuclear testing conducted in the area, the genetic DNA of the animal life caused some unusual consequences......I'm sure now that it's been several generations since the 80's that some of that has faded away. At least I hope so.....
