This image is from last summer. A kite colony was visiting Half Moon Bay, CA. Each colony can be as large as 15-20 birds. They are very illusive during nesting but after youngsters are born and can fly they tend to be less skittish. The juveniles learn, practice and perfect their hunting skills as parents don't feed them anymore at this stage and even offer some competition.
