I wish the RX1 had an integrated EVF. The lack of that just kills the handling for me. I couldn't stand carrying it and constantly worrying that the megabucks EVF had fallen off. Otherwise, I think it's a pretty nice camera. The AF could be better, but it's not as bad as it's made out to be.
I own the XP1 with 35mm and 18mm lenses. It's a fantastic camera. I also own the X100s and love it. The X100s is a new experience for me so my XP1 has been collecting dust for a couple of days, BUT when I look back at the XP1 images I am simply blown away!
I think that the XP1 and X100s make a wonderful combination. I hope to pair a 55-200 and/or 56mm f1.4 to the XP1 to give me greater versatility.
The X100s will be my carry every where camera and the XP1 will be used when I have a special need for one of it's focal lengths. They are both fantastic cameras. If I had to decide between the two I would go with the X100s at this time and watch to see what Fuji does in the coming months. I imagine that an XP2 with phase detection pixels has to be on its way to market within the year.
I have had all 3 of them, the X Pro, the XE-1 and the X100s. The focus IS the real issue with the XE-1 and the X Pro1. Way too slow for anything except composed static shots. For anything moving or candid you might as well pull out your iPhone and go with that because the XE and the X Pro will let you down. I even experimented with the X Pro with some old Canon primes I have thinking MF could be fine with the camera... Wrong again. If you go MF with your old Nikon or Canon primes you have to use the EVF. Which should be fine, right? Nope, the EVF has a sampling rate that is very slow, so if you are trying to see focus the image is jumping all over the place making MF slow and difficult. Both the XE and the X Pro can deliver fantastic images, but the slow AF, slow processor, and slow EVF make them a no go for me. Now, the X100s is a whole different story. Its fast, not blazing fast, but plenty fast enough for street and candid photography. It also delivers terrific colors and image quality. I'm very happy with mine and plan on keeping it for some time. I really can't say enough good about the X100s.
I was about to pull the trigger on an X100s until I shot a few images with the lens wide open. The lens is really soft and doesn't get really sharp until F/4.

And yet (with the exception of macro subjects) it still manages to produce perfectly fine photos (as illustrated by all the great shots in the X100/s image thread, a lot of which are wide open) save for if one is shooting test shots
If you want the perfect 35mm (equiv) lens, then no, the X100s isnt the way to go. I can think of multiple lenses that perform better, but they also cost about equal to several times what the X100 does for the lens alone, not to mention lacking AF and requiring a much bigger/heavier camera bag overall.
What else gives you a pretty good 35mm equiv, with a built-in OVF/EVF, and such a small/light size for a mere $1299 I can't think of anything....

My plan is to invest in more X glass as it's released and to pair my X100s with a nice flash!
bought the fuji fef42, it works, but to be honest it seems a bit lame compared to my canons. Heats up easily, one button for a ton of functions, no up/down buttons and the hot shoe locking mechanism is quite possibly the worst I've seen.
I occasionally use a small Nikon Speedlight SB-30 on my X-Pro 1 and X100. It has three M settings (1/1, 1/8, and 1/32 power), and four settings controlled by the flash onboard light sensor, as well as +/- 1/2 EV adjustment. It's very small and very light, and you should be able to find one on eBay for less than $30. It's a real bargain.

yeah but it wont fit my gary fong
(or maybe it might?? hmmmmm)
Probably not. I separate my gear and performance expectations into two camps; (i) big honking EOS 1D-series DSLR with super AF, high fps, and monster flash, and (ii) Fujifilm X-series cameras.
yeah fair enough, this makes sense. I was helping out a friend with a wedding the other day and I wanted to shoot it with my fuji, but at the same time I wanted a camera that said "I am the tog here, you with the p&s make room, all others look at me and smile"
So I added all the stuff I dont normally use: flash and diffuser, grip, hood and neck strap. Still didnt look particularly menacing

You're looking for something like the one on the left...
I am considering the Fuji X100S over the X-pro1 for several reasons, but one of the biggest is the x-sync of the X100S goes all the way up to 1/4000 second.
It depends on lens, the 23/2 on the x100s is not the fastest to focus
I find the xpro1 is faster with the 14 or 18 but equal or slower with other lenses
I dont think the FW had any impact on AF
The xe2 is in a whole different ballpark from both of them IMO.

Isn't the x100s and x-e2 using the same sensor and processor? How can the x-e2 be that much better?
Yes, and I have no idea how it's possible, but it is very clear to me when shooting them side by side.
Must be a matter of lens, unless I have faulty x100s.
Someone suggested I should use C-AF but it didnt make much diff.

Spyro, any quantitative sense (yeah... subjective reading put into an objective measurement scale) how the X-E2 AF vs say XP w/ 35mm (latest firmware) stack up against a 5D/5D2 centerpoint for one-shot AF? Call the Canon a 10, and something that focuses faster can go above that number.
