Exactly. That's huge. It's got a 72mm filter thread, vs 58mm on the 14mm f/2.8, and looks to be roughly the same size as my old Tokina 12-24/4. That's a big lens for a mirrorless kit. For an SLR kit, yeah, that's normal sized...but I went mirrorless precisely because of the size issue. I don't mind carrying a little larger for good telephoto optics, as usually these are still smaller than their SLR counterparts, but on the wide end, I don't want to start carrying 72mm lenses again.
The Fuji lenses are already generally bigger than similar Micro 4/3 lenses, but it's not a big difference, and despite being made of metal, they're very light, so the whole kit weighs roughly the same. But start adding some big lenses to it, and the whole 'super small and light' thing starts to go out the window. Even though it too is pretty big, I may get the 55-200 and the 14mm, and that'll work for a pretty darn complete kit. I could only see getting the 10-14 if I sell off all my m4/3 gear, and therefore the 7-14mm f/4.
I might wait to see how the Zeiss 12 performs as well as its size and price. However, I have to say that in a prime ultra-wide, I'm inclined to have a slightly longer lens than wider, where if I have a zoom, I want the widest I can get, since in situations where that width isn't warranted, I can always zoom in a bit...with a prime, you're stuck shooting at 12mm...and here the more moderate UWA of the 14mm may appeal to me a little more.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love the 10-14 for its range, but I just don't want lenses that big again. ...Show more →
all fair points, but the 10-24 doesn't look bigger than the other two in that photo? Sure it has a wide filter thread but this seems to be just an uplift/extension to keep the filter clear of that bulbous front element, I doubt if it adds real weight or more than 0.5-1cm in length Vs the other two
But I could be wrong, has Fuji released the dimensions and weight yet?
Also, where did you guys see the 55-200?
(and apologies for derailing the thread again)
I thought I could help you with that because I was at a photo meet-up where one of the other photographers in attendance had an XP1 with the 14, but the only shot I have of him with the camera, he's at the edge of the frame well outside the plane of focus... In any case, FWIW, my initial impression was the lens was bigger than I expected it to be, at least for a mirrorless, short register distance APS-C system. Not that it's huge. Rather, it's not small.

Thanks for posting these samples up. Curious if you have made any prints from the lens and if so at what size and how is the detail in the images when printed. Thank you
Jack
I didn't make any prints from this lens yet, but since it isn't less detailed than the XF35 I know it'll be just fine. I have some 80*60cm prints from that lens and they look good.
It's not a 21mm distagon though. It doesn't offer the same amazing microcontrast.

Can anyone with the 14mm post a shot of the camera W/ that lens on the camera?
No problem. I'll make some when I get home later today.
Thanks for taking the time to post those up. Now I know what my "kit" will look like. I just put in an order for a 14 2.8 rental for a quick trip I have planned. I'll have plenty of time to try it out and make sure it's what I want before I lay out the $900 for it. It's going to be nice to travel light with just a XE-1, 35 1.4, 14 2.8 and a couple of batteries. After a week with the XE-1 it's the first time I've been happy with images out of anything other than my Nikon DSLR.

Spyro, you're out of luck. No flare problems evident.
Happy shooting,
Yakim.
If you look at Fuji's own sample photos for the 14mm, there is a shot in a forest, looking up at the trees where flare is quite evident along the upper right edge of the image. It's from this gallery.
A little bit of flare in a 14mm lens isn't really a huge issue to me. I have yet to see flare in images from mine, though I haven't really put it through its paces yet. I think it's at least better than the Oly 12mm that I sold to acquire it.
