Question: I have CS6 and LR4 ... is Nik suite a worthwhile addition to the toolkit? What does Nik suite provide that I can't do already? The HDR plugin interests me, but other plugins (like Silver FX) could be replicated in LR?
Download the trial and see.
Personally, I have a lot of LR B&W presets and Silver FX didn't seem to give anything more. Viveza, on the other hand, is just excellent for local lighting and colour adjustments. I don't know about the other plugins as I haven't tried them.

Nearly everything can be replicated in your CS6 and LR4 if you are very skilled with those software. But even then the plugins will make the workflow much faster. I would also guess that 99% of those software owners are not skilled enough to do it........
Once there was a picture along with a long detailed how to to go along with it. With 3 clicks in Color Efex I nearly identically reproduced it, so much easier.

That was the same response they had two years ago when I contact Nik about a license issue. So it's not a clue to what Google is doing.

I just dropped them an email and the automated reply indicates a sell off before some new software is released....

I mean it is available for download on various sites (apparently) and there is no protection. Simply install and use - nothing asking for a serial number. That's what I have heard anyway
Yeah Greg it did sound pretty much like they were fobbing me off but I got a reply the next day (I posted it a few post later in this thread) saying I could have it all for $140. I had been after Color and Silver Efex for a while but was annoyed I had to pay extra for versions that working in PS too.
It was my birthday the day they announced the offer and this was a great present

This is hearsay but I was told they needed to bring in some revenue for new software their developing. Can you imagine what they must have brought in. They got 129. bucks from me and probably thousands more. It sure made me happy.

For a company like Google, the Nik software is a very very small thing compared to the rest of their business.
