Really appreciate all the kind words and tips. Perhaps this will help me push the wife to pick up a decent camera since I don't have one. I have to borrow the one from my work from time to time to practice taking any shots.

1,3, & 5. For someone who doesn't do this, you did the smart thing, getting down to your son's level instead of shooting from above. Sharpness is not the only criteria for a great photo, and in this case, while a little soft, the emotional quality of the images is more important.
