I like the lighting and the shadow of the first one, but there's just something about it that's not quite working for me, but I can't put a finger on it.
Yeh, number 1 is great drama, just clone out the blue tv screen in the upper right. Put your finger over it and see the difference it makes in the perceived color and drama.
Here's my take on #1. It's almost there. The problem is in the crop. The rays lead the eyes to the lower left corner. That's where it needs its breathing room. More room on the left. The space on the right including the blue monitor thing is not needed. You want to either justify the rider on the right more or go with a horizontal crop that allows the eyes to lead with the rays of light into the space that's being provided for it.
I like a couple of these. What was the lighting used (natural, flash, diffused flash). The lighting seems much more than just natural light, but maybe that's due to the camera / lens combo?
Thanks for the comments every one. On #1 I see everyones point, and should have cropped tighter for presentation purposes here at FM, the submitted image was a vertical crop. All but #1 and #2 of these were with on camera flash.
