Every real bird lover must have a book to help identify sightings. We have a pair of White-Breasted Nuthatches taking up residence at a bird house adjacent to our patio grill. Thought I'd mount the book on the grill, and wait for one of our friends to pop out. Got pretty lucky.
Thanks for the kind words on my entry folks. Apologize for the delayed response. Left with my wife for a few weeks of R&R right after posting this. Don"t get much FM time when we're off together.

That's awesome, Ed - we've got some nuthatches around us as well and they are very cool to watch.
They almost seem robotic.
They are very cool to watch. Love to see them walk down a tree head-first. We get both the white and smaller brown-chested version in our backyard. Not as timid as many other of their feather friends.
Cheers everyone, and good luck in this week's competition. Some really good entries.
That is not luck, it is clever and thoughtful. Lots of patience too, I imagine. I love the concept, which took a few minutes to really appreciate and sink in.
