On my last visit to the Mesquite Sand Dunes at Death Valley, I saw these very large concentric circular patterns.
They may be well over 150 feet in diameter. Possible close encounters the night before??

How interesting. I have never seen tracks like that before in DV. #3 is the best in terms of a landscape shot. The first two are good documentary shots.

But Ben is right.
Judging by all the footsteps, the place is easily accessible from the road. A few guys went out there with rakes and messed up the sand. The blowing wind smoothed some of it out.
Like Britain's "crop circles" (but not nearly as clever or time-consuming), a few jerks messed with reality.
Nothing more- nothing less.

BTW- most scientists who have taken an interest in the traveling rocks at the Racetrack- agree the only "mystery" is that it happens so seldom it hasn't been witnessed by anyone. It is amazing for sure. Much of nature is amazing.
It's not a mystery why no one has observed the racing rocks: If the theories hold, the rocks only move during the most bitter cold, monstrously windy/rainy/snowy conditions that ever occur there. Anyone planning to be there under those conditions would have to be prepared to be effectively stranded there for up to several days while the roads dried out, the visibility improved, and the winds died down.
