Please test the samyang thoroughly before you go to the grand canyon, because there are quite some copies that have issues. But if you have a good copy it is great as can be seen in this thread.

What tests should I perform to the lens once I get it apart from focus to infinity and minimum focus distance?

The first thing I would check is if there is any decentering defect. Is the left side just as sharp as the right side and vice versa? I read some posts that that is an issue sometimes with this lens. If that's OK and you can focus from minimum to infinity then it should be OK I think.
you guys and your images all suck..... Not only did I have to re-read this thread last night, but it was right after I got the notification that my tax return got deposited....
