Most are hoping for the D400, why the hell not the TCs? Since we have the TC-2E III already logic would think that Nikon would follow that with the 14E and 17E. What are the chances that we get these?

what was the problem with it? Impact damage?
It would be nice if Nikon updates their TC's and include Aspherical elements on each. (currently, only the TC-20EIII has that)
I think that the Mk II versions are state of the art. The 2.0TC (like all 2.0 TCs) are a much bigger optical compromise so that the 2.0 MK III was necessary/possible with their latest technology offered some improvement.
