When in Manual mode and auto ISO there doesnt seem to be a way to adjust for exposure compensation. The slider stays in the middle. I know its not the camera's fault it has to be me. Anyone try this?
You're probably in M mode, where exposure compensation is not available. You can adjust exposure compensation with auto ISO in Av, Tv, and P modes. If you use Av or P mode you can also set a minimum shutter speed in addition to exposure compensation while using auto ISO.
Example: Av mode, auto ISO, +2/3 exp comp, 1/250th minimum shutter.
(This will raise ISO to 25,600 before it lowers the shutter speed below 1/250th.)
More than one way to skin a cat I suppose. I love using manual while in low light and tend to Tv/Av in better light. If I need exposure compensation in manual mode, I'll look at the auto iso result and adjust the number/fraction of stops I need.
Well, in M mode you can use the Q button to set exposure bracketing. A bit wasteful but you can set a high and low exposure bias and keep the one that works.
Like what's with the max shutter of a 1/250, what on earth was the point of that limit other than some exec insisting cause he only ever uses shorter IS lenses. Sigh. 22 megapixels can do with a bit more choice on max shutter speeds...
Canon simply needs to re-implement Auto ISO...add 'Ev' mode to the choices of 'Av' and 'Tv', where in Ev you set shutter and aperture and the camera sets ISO (third side of the exposure triangle), and the EC control dial works to permit you to compensate the meter reading.
Then Manual is truly 'photographer sets EVERYTHING, camera sets NOTHING'.
That is the way that some other camera brands have implemented the trio of setting automation.
