Whether there are multiple versions of a camera is not necessarily related to the pro factor. For example the low end Nikon DSLRs are offered in multiple colors and there are specialty cameras like the Canon 20Da or 60Da that are astro versions of other bodies.

What does being pro have to do with having two versions. For example Pentax released regular and AA-less versions of K-5 II which is not a pro camera either.

any tool in the hands of a working professional doing their job to produce paid work can be granted exempt status and be deemed a professional tool if it does the job the working pro needs.

The D7100 is not a pro camera. That does not mean Pro's will not use it for paid work.
