Nice. I have a deal in place to buy someone's 2x TC. If it works as well as the 1.7x I'll be really happy.
Thanks. I saw your WTB, Dan. I got tired of lookin' here so I scored a LN- from KEH.
It's a potent combo with the D800 and I smile every time I get to use it. GL
I just bought, but haven't received, an older 200mm f/2 VR model. I was actually shopping for a different lens but this one I have lusted for, for a long time. I couldn't pass on it. The pictures sent to me show a very well kept lens and I'm pretty stoked to get my hands on it. I only have the TC-14 and TC17 but will be adding a TC2.0 for snicks real soon. All these pics and posts have me itching.....
Unrelated, I also learned my Sigma 35mm is shipping Tuesday. Feels better than Christmas around here!

Congrats on pickin' one up...mine's the original too. The Siggy's like a mini 200 in terms of sharpness, good score!
Awesome, sharp. It's the man using the gear, has to be. I have never been pleased with my photos from a 2X. Tried the 70-200VR's, 200 f2, 300 f2.8, 400 f2.8, 500 f4; none worked for me using a 2X.

Hiya, Charles...thanks a lot! The 200 f2 is the ONLY lens I'll use the TC-20E III on...
well, perhaps a 400 f2.8 (if I had one)

Jim, I used it a fair amount with both of those lenses too. Neither could keep up with the 200 f2 in terms of
AF speed/feather detail over 30 yds. Plus, you're starting out at f5.6 (better at f7.1 or f8) vs f4 (f5) That's huge
in less than ideal light. I just found the TC-17E II a much better match with the 70-200/300...for my needs. Like
all things, it comes down to what you're shootin' and what you're willing to live with in therms of IQ.

I've tried it on all three lenses as well and while it does perform well on all three I find the 200 f/2 to be the best of the bunch as well. Throw the 1.4x or 1.7x on it and you cannot even tell a TC is on it.
I hear and agree with you Will, you cant beat the 200 f2, I use to have one, what a great lens. The old 2x teleconveter didnt give great results but glad to hear the new one works better. I am much happier with the new TC20E III over the old one. ..... you can even use it on the 70-200 VRII in a pinch and get decent results and even better results on the newer 300 VRII. Like you say all depends on what your shooting.
Good to know the new 2x works better on the 200 f2, you never know one might be in future again but right now I'm better off with my 300 VRII as it fits my needs better but I do miss it
