p.1 #1 · Jeremy Cowart shoots a wedding

I thought some of you might find this interesting if you haven't seen it. Commercial/celebrity photographer Jeremy Cowart just posted photographs from a friends' wedding he shot recently.

People interested in the new VSCO 03 pack and those interested in seeing weddings shot in not-the-most-glamorous-venues might enjoy them in particular.

I thought they had an almost Mottola-ish feel to them.

Yeah I thought it sucked if that's all the good stuff he got. Nice shots but its all posed crap. Not a single real moment captured. He may just be showing those because he is an editorial guy or maybe that's the stuff they wanted who knows...

Everytime VSCO releases a new version, these same guys "shoot a friend to try the new presets". (read: click my affiliate link )

That said, I did pick up the latest version yesterday. Lots of nice tones in there to utilize. Definitely worth the discounted price IMO.

Not enough knowledge or know how to critique anyone's work but I've been more impressed by the work of many of our members.

there are some nice posed shots. But I am curious to see those genuine, candid moments throughout the day.

He probably didn't shoot the photojournalism part of the wedding, leaving that to a wedding pro. While it might be posed and some of us might consider it beneath you, but it looks pretty damned good to me. I'm willing to bet the wedding couple was ecstatic over these shots, even if it was shot by a wedding newbie.

His processing is really not my thing, but I'm sure others love it. The comments on his page certainly supports that.

Cause I'm sure he's not erasing all the critical comments

Sergio is going to die of a stroke when he clicks the link that has a "Motollaish feel to them".

They in no way at all resemble his work, his processing, or any aspect of his style.

I don't understand why photographers are so into uber-DR this and high ISO that when the finished product is devoid of any DR and full of speckles.

Did an actual wedding happen or did he just shoot portraits?

I like the pictures, but you're right, it doesn't really say anything about the wedding. I'm sure it's difficult for him to break out of his mold and all of a sudden think like a wedding photographer.

For someone who is not a wedding photographer, Cowart's images are pretty damn good.

You guys want everything to fit into your box. I would lay money that the couple had a wedding photographer shooting the whole wedding, and Jeremy Cowart offered to shoot their portraits. What's wrong with that?

I don't know who this guy is but I'm guessing people are being critical due to him being some sort of "celebrity photographer" or whatever. I personally think if someone posted a couple of these images on here they'd get a lot of praise. Yes, they're simply portraits - maybe this is what they wanted? Not everyone wants the same thing from their photographer. Some people don't want any formal portraits at all, and again, I imagine a fair few folk would be crying out "But no portraits?".

But okay, if it makes us all feel better to put down someone's work then go for it ;-)

I never heard of the guy, either, but I agree with you. Motiolla woulda put some of these up, people would be falling all over themselves how great they were.

this is definitely similar to his style.. maybe not as refined but it's very similar

I think jeremy cowart did a great job, but tried awfully hard at the editing. i wonder how much time went into those images, and i hope the b&g are OK with the other 98% of the images *probably* not looking like those at all.

I've always wondered if couples are let down when photographers do a massive amount of editing for their portfolio and blog images and minimal editing for the entire wedding. I would like to put more effort into my blog posts, but I don't want my couples to expect every image to look that way and become disappointed when they receive the disc with the entire wedding. Not to mention those overly worked images would stick out like a sore thumb when scanning through the entire disc. I usually spend about 3 minutes per blog post image and about 30 seconds to 1 minute per image for the entire album. How do all of you approach this?
