Every monitor can benefit from calibration. Especially if you're going to do any printing. A basic calibration device is a good investment -- or you could even rent one:

I just calibrated my new 27 iMac with Colormunki. It was also a bit cool, as morganb4 found. You can make a print andcompare to see if it is close enough for you. You also have to turn down the brightness quite a bit to get prints to match.
