question for you all: how nice/solid is the bg-e11 grip for the 5d3? it's come down to $275 now, and i'm considering it. but i don't want to bother if it's going to feel kind of creaky or if there's play in it. any idea how it feels on a tripod?
I really like the BG-E11! The only other grips I've owned were for a 40D and I currently have a 5D Classic gripped, and the BG-E11 feels far superior. To me, it seems to blend in nicely with the camera.
I haven't used it on a tripod, so I can't attest to that.
Mine sits on the tripod mainly. Very solid connection without a hint of play. I just used my instincts on finger tightening it down, so far so good. Using two newer canon batteries I get very decent battery life using it mainly for live view. I really like the option of removing it if needed but do like the extended grip area, kinda get used to it and has a good feel to it.
the BG-E11 is my first battery grip and I love it. I noticed right away the ergonomics - the grip area is slightly bulkier but it helps maintain a firm and comfy grip. No play between the body and grip.
