Mr. King,
my first thoughts were... backgrounds and... the lights must have been rough.
so, makes ME feel good to see that better photogs than me see yer problems. Looks like you handled it very
nicely. Have ya got more?
thanks for sharing,
B
Thanks everyone,
The backgrounds aren't so good since this field house was built 50+ years ago with track in mind, as you can see from the banners. The light is a bit better in the middle, about 50 ft behind the floor apparatus. They keep it so close to the end stands for the parents and fans, not for photogs!
Hey Steven... most venues are like this. Very difficult to control the BG, so other than to be aware of them and find the best of the worst, you deal with it. Individual comments that you can control to follow:
1) Either go tighter or looser. I imagine tighter, since the focal point is the hands and chalk. The face fragments are distracting.
2) Okay, but preferbly more face if you can.
3) Not flattering here. She looks scared. You want to capture, power, prominence and beauty. It can be tough.
4) I'd go vertical here and play around with the crop a bit.
5) I like.
6) Need the beam in the shot.
7) Shootable. Capturable. Even sellable. But as show off shot... I'm not sure.
8) Need floor as a reference. Awkward crop for me.
1) I get that, and even though I thought the faces in the shot were interesting, I can see why they need to go.
2) Couldn't get her face or the other girls who did this move, but I'll keep trying.
3) It was different so I thought I'd try posting it here. I try something different on every shoot, not all of 'em are golden though!
4) Yup, vertical it is. The client wants everything in horizontal for web use, but this pose and other scream vertical.
5) thanks me too.
6) Yup, I got it just in the bottom of the frame and cropped it out for this post thinking a bit tighter would look good, oops.
7) yes again, shot this for the look and the teammates in the BG, client liked it a lot too, and I get your point.
8) same as beam shot, took the floor out for a tight crop.
9) Thanks! This was the best of these shots that I got all night, too many were not facing me with a good angle.
10/11) Thanks, I love these team huddle shots too.
I've updated a couple of the shots here, let me know how much better these look.
